ADAPt CASE STUDIES
These are some examples of the type of cases we take on.

Thomasina is a 72 year-old lady with mobility problems and dementia. She has taken a dislike to the hairdresser in the home where she lives and is insisting that she see her own hairdresser in town. Her son is on the town council, the board of school governors, and is on the board of trustees for the home and day centre where Thomasina lives. He feels that the home’s hairdresser is fine and is unhappy at having to organise a return taxi journey to the local town and back every week.
Hortense has mild learning disabilities and mild dementia. She is currently 94 and has been in care since she was three years' old. She has no family, but the staff in her care home feel very protective towards her and feel she should have an independent advocate when decisions regarding her care are made.
Hilary is in her 80’s. She has dementia and has broken her leg. She is currently on the trauma ward in the hospital and is refusing food and drink. She has two doctors who disagree what her mental capacity is.
Adelaide is an 84 year-old lady with mild dementia who lives in a care home. Her sister has requested an advocate to help Adelaide understand that her house must be sold to pay for her room in the care home.
Abdul has a recent diagnosis of early dementia. He has gone to his solicitors to amend his will, and wishes to give a large portion of his estate to his favourite charity now, while he has the mental capacity to see the good work his money can do. The solicitors have requested an independent advocate as they feel Abdul may need more of his money for care in his later years than he currently thinks.
